The Temple Plate

Food organised by what it interacts with. MyPlate already covers macronutrients and it is free — restating it adds nothing. What no official plate does is tell you which tier your medicine, your fast or your preparation takes off the table, and name the mechanism.

Ordinary daysOn a monoamine oxidase inhibitorFastingDieta — preparation before a riteNo money this week

On a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Severity depends entirely on WHICH inhibitor. A reversible RIMA or a low-dose transdermal patch is not the same as an irreversible oral MAOI. Read interactions-data.mjs before assuming the classic diet applies.

Ground

whole grains · tubers · legumes · roots

The base. Cheap, storable, and what almost every tradition actually built its table on.

Garden

leaves · vegetables · fruit · alliums · mushrooms

Fresh matter. The tier most often lost first when money is short, which is why the free-food programmes matter here.

PART OF IT COMES OFFBroad bean PODS specifically, and the mechanism is L-dopa rather than tyramine. The distinction matters because it changes which part of the plant is the problem.
Mechanism: ldopa-load — the pharmacology and its citations live in the library, not here, so there is one source of truth.

Protein

pulses · eggs · dairy · fish · meat · nuts · seeds

Sourced however the practitioner sources it. The Temple takes no position on flesh; it takes a position on knowing what is in it.

Fat and oil

olive · seed oils · butter · ghee · animal fat

Carrier for fat-soluble compounds, which is why it appears in preparation traditions far more than in nutrition charts.

Ferment and age

aged cheese · cured meat · soy sauce · miso · yeast extract · unpasteurised beer · kimchi · sauerkraut

Set apart deliberately. Nutritionally small, pharmacologically the loudest tier on the plate — see the MAOI state.

OFF THE PLATEAged, cured and fermented food carries TYRAMINE, produced by bacterial decarboxylation of tyrosine. Normally gut and liver MAO-A destroy it. With that enzyme blocked it is absorbed intact and displaces noradrenaline — the hypertensive "cheese reaction".
Mechanism: tyramine-load — the pharmacology and its citations live in the library, not here, so there is one source of truth.

Why the ferment tier is set apart

It is the smallest tier on the plate and the loudest one pharmacologically. Aged cheese, cured meat, soy sauce, miso, yeast extract, unpasteurised beer — nutritionally a rounding error, and the single tier that can put someone on an MAOI in hospital. A plate that sorts by macronutrient has no way to say that. This one is built so it can.

Educational only. This is a frame for thinking about food, not medical or dietary advice, and it does not replace a clinician or a pharmacist. Where a state names a drug interaction, the mechanism and its citations live in interactions-data.mjs — read those before relying on any of it.

This is a screener, not a diagnosis, and it cannot establish any medically determinable impairment. It produces a list of questions and specific tests to bring to a clinician. Nothing here is a finding, a clearance, or a result. If any page renders this as a conclusion about a person, that page is wrong.
